The Vancouver Canadians are Salem-Keizer Volcanoes fans right now.
The C’s are trying to chase down the Everett AquaSox for the second-half pennant in the Northwest League’s North Division. Everett (15-11) is playing the Volcanoes, and holding a game and half lead on Vancouver (13-12). Vancouver has 13 games remaining in this Short Season Single A campaign.
The Tri-City Dust Devils (12-14), who are guaranteed a playoff spot already thanks to winning the first-half banner, are third in the North.
Vancouver continues their home series tonight with the Boise Hawks (10-16) with 7:05 p.m. start at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Vancouver second baseman Ryan Metzler enters the game with a 15-game hitting streak. Metzler, a 2014 ninth-round draft pick of the parent Toronto Blue Jays, is hitting .281 in 35 games with Vancouver this season.
He batted .265 in the 19 games before the all-streak break and he’s at .292 in the 16 games since.
Right-hander Jon Harris, the Blue Jays’ first-round pick this past June, is slated to start for Vancouver tonight.
